Chairman of SEESARI dr. Peter Verlič and Executive Director of SHIFT2RAIL JU Mr. Carlo Borghini, with the presence of the European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport Ms. Violeta Bulc, signed the Agreement of Cooperation between SEESARI and SHIFT2RAIL at the International Fair InnoTrans in Berlin on September 18th.
The focus of the mutual agreement is on the exchange of information on current and planned activities and research and innovation programs; the exchange of experience and good practices in the framework of the transformation of the rail system, with a particular focus on digitization and interoperability; the involvement of the SEESARI initiative in the S2R SU Working Groups. The SEESARI will thus have the opportunity to participate in the preparation of guidelines for the future programming period in order to strengthen the development of railways in South East Europe.
SHIFT2RAIL is a Public-Private Partnership for Railway Research and Innovation, approved by the European Commission, with a view to increasing European rail passenger transport in freight. It is the first European rail initiative to seek focused research and innovation (R&I) and market-driven solutions by accelerating the integration of new and advanced technologies into innovative rail product solutions.
Dr. Verlic mentioned the importance of the agreement and told that time for railway modernization and innovation is coming also to the South East part of Europe.
